Power generation and engineering is one of the most vital industries for every country. An efficient and steady energy sector is essential to the stability of every economy in the world. GC “TYAZHMASH” plays a key role in the development of power engineering in Russia, rightfully holds a leading position among heavy, power, and conveyance engineering service providers. Strong technical and intellectual expertise enables the company to create unique equipment to the highest standards, enhance products’ quality, enter new markets, increase production capacities, and establish strategic partnerships with companies all over
the world.
With production sites both in Russia and abroad, the GC’s core operations are located in Syzran. They are: PJSC “TYAZHMASH”, which is involved in development and manufacture of ore crushers and mills, power plant fuel preparation equipment, conveyors, various systems for NPPs and land-based launch pads for spaceports and JSC “SYZRAN HYDROTURBINE PLANT”, which mainly engaged in design, modernization, and production of hydraulic turbines for hydro power plants, including “turnkey” projects.
2010 became another milestone in the company’s steady advancement, and keeps meeting high quality standards. Participation in the Russian Quality federal program brought to GC “TYAZHMASH” a certificate confirming the high quality of our hydraulic shock absorbers for NPP systems. We were also awarded first place in the nomination Nonstandard Equipment in the contest between nuclear industry suppliers at the “Nuclear Machine-Building Industry Trade Fair” held in Nizhny Novgorod.
In accordance of the contract with OJSC “Novolipetsk Metallurgical Combine” the company delivered seven coal and coke feed conveyors for blast furnace No.7 (picture 1), currently under construction. The performance and equipment of the new furnace make it unique to Russia and CIS. Specifically for this project, engineers of GC “TYAZHMASH” developed conveyors with a belt width of 1.6 metres and overall length of 730 metres.
The performance figures of the company suggest a continued and sustained growth. In 2010 our production amounted to around 5 billion rubles. For 2011 we 12 billion rubles worth of orders.
We are also moving forward with our plan of strategic expansion into world market. In March 2010 GC “TYAZHMASH” acquired “ČKD Blansko Holding” (picture 2), a Czech producer of hydraulic turbines and hydro-mechanical equipment. The merger proved to be beneficial for both companies; specifically “ČKD Blansko Holding” received the opportunity to make large hydraulic turbines at the production site of “TYAZHMASH”, using its high capacities and state-of-the-art machinery with numeric control (CNC). “TYAZHMASH”, for its part, gained access to successful practices of creating hydro-mechanical equipment and building small HPPs, as “ČKD Blansko Holding” had been making hydraulic turbines, locks, and other related equipment for many years.
“ČKD Blansko Holding” owns “ČKD Blansko SMALL HYDRO”, an affiliated company founded in autumn 2007 which makes hydraulic turbines and hydro-mechanical equipment for small hydroelectric power plants.
Since the beginning of this year companies within the “ČKD Blansko Holding” structure have secured USD 55 million worth of contracts. The integration of “ČKD Blansko Holding” into the GC “TYAZHMASH” took place in March 2010 and, therefore, all the contracts were assigned to the new owner.
The acquisition of the Czech company by GC “TYAZHMASH” has brought many benefits — as of today, several contracts for hydro turbine equipment and related works have been made. The two companies are working through a USD 4 million contract to deliver 4 m diameter disk shutters for Charvak HPP. Since “ČKD Blansko Holding” has vast experience in developing and making such equipment and PJSC “TYAZHMASH” has the production capacity, expertise and technology to produce metal structures of any type and size, this project, as well as many other projects, will be best accomplished through the joint efforts of the two companies. The design will be provided by the Czech engineers, while the Russian specialists will be responsible for the manufacture.
From January to November 2010 the Research and Development Centre, a part of “ČKD Blansko Holding”, carried out a mock-up test of RO-75 hydraulic turbine for the Chaparral HPP in El Salvador (picture 3), a project run by PJSC “TYAZHMASH”.
The turnkey construction project of the main generator hall at Chaparral is one of the most promising projects of the GC “TYAZHMASH” in 2011. The project is based on the contract signed in 2009 with Astaldi (Republic of El Salvador) for main and auxiliary equipment delivery for the HPP “Chaparral” on “turn key” condition.
This is our first experience of providing other types of HPP equipment than turbines, and this is the first contract in the entire history of the Syzran facility for delivery of main and auxiliary equipment to Latin America. The unique character and novelty of the Chaparral HPP hydraulic turbine project is because of the proprietary design by the JSC “SYZRAN HYDROTURBINE PLANT”, developed based on many years’ experience of making hydro turbine equipment and analyzing similar foreign and domestic designs. The project uses the latest technologies, the most advanced materials and meets all customers’ requirements.
Another promising endeavour for 2011 is the “Toachi Pilaton” HPP project in Ecuador, on which “TYAZHMASH” and JSC “Inter RAO UES” have already signed a contract of over USD 130 million. According to the contract, turnkey electro and hydro mechanical works are to be carried out at a series of hydroelectric stations with total capacity of 252MW. “Toachi Pilaton” is a hydropower project which, based on current studies, envisages the construction of two HPPs — 48MW “Sarapullo” and 204MW “Alluriquin” using the Pilaton and Toachi catchment areas. The realization of the project and cooperation with “Inter RAO UES” will take the company to the next level of development and prove that “TYAZHMASH” is a world-level company.
Today subcontractors for all kinds of auxiliary equipment, as well as main design contractor and developers of all systems are selected for the project. Besides, efforts are made to find an installation contractor to mount all the equipment at the HPP.
“TYAZHMASH” has also entered the Asian market — the company received an order for three hydroelectric units for the Nam Na 2 HPP in Vietnam. The contract signed in 2010 with “HUNG HAI Group” became the first step in the company’s venture in to the Vietnamese market. GC “TYAZHMASH” specialists are to make Kaplan turbines with runner diameter 4.6 m, take part in their installation and carry out HPP service personnel training. As of today, “TYAZHMASH” has finished developing turbine embedded parts and has all principal drawings approved. The company is setting out to make the turbine according to the project specifications. According to “TYAZHMASH” marketing specialists, the cooperation with “HUNG HAI Group” will open great perspectives to the company and the first order from the Vietnamese customer will not be the last.
The activities described in this article will ensure development of the company and help to unlock its potential. Modern scientific achievements, new materials, advanced technologies and engineering solutions guarantee world-level quality and adherence to all clients’ requirements while creating highly-customized heavy-duty machinery.
